Ten Hag sacked as head coach of Leverkusen after two league games

Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Bayer Leverkusen has been terminated after merely two Bundesliga matches, as the former German champions have reportedly severed ties with the Dutch coach following the club’s astonishing collapse against Werder Bremen.
Following Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-3 draw with a 10-man Werder Bremen last Saturday, the club’s hierarchy decided to relieve head coach Erik ten Hag of his duties. Ten Hag had overseen just two Bundesliga matches for the German side in the 2025-26 campaign.
In a brief statement, the club announced, “Bayer 04 has parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect. The assistant coaching staff will temporarily assume training duties.”
Club captain Robert Andrich has expressed his frustration, stating that “everyone played for themselves” in response to the weekend’s result.
The former Manchester United and Ajax manager succeeded Xabi Alonso in July, but the majority of the 2023/24 Bundesliga-winning squad departed the club during a summer of significant transformation, with notable exits including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Granit Xhaka.
