Government enforces curfew in Bole Township over chieftaincy tensions

A curfew has been imposed on Bole Township and its environs in the Savannah Region by the Ministry of the Interior, following heightened tensions over chieftaincy disputes.
Effective Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the curfew will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.
This decision, as outlined in a directive signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, was based on advice from the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument.
The government has urged traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and residents to exercise restraint and utilize peaceful channels to address grievances.
As part of the restrictions, a total ban has been enforced on firearms, ammunition, and offensive weapons, with offenders subject to arrest and prosecution.
In addition, authorities have prohibited more than two persons from riding motorcycles simultaneously and banned the wearing of war regalia.
