Wontumi FM's Kwakye Asare granted GH₵100K bail

Kumasi-based Wontumi FM journalist Emmanuel Kwakye Asare has been released on bail after spending two weeks in police custody.
He was arrested on August 12, 2025, and charged with one count of offensive conduct in connection with the publication of alleged false news with the intent to cause fear and panic.
Bail has been granted to the accused in the amount of GH₵100,000 with two sureties, who are required to be civil servants. His legal team is currently completing the necessary processes to finalize the bail conditions.
Asare is scheduled to reappear before the court on September 1, 2025. The radio presenter made an allegation on his program that President John Dramani Mahama was aware of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that resulted in eight fatalities.
The prosecution opposed bail due to ongoing investigations.
Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah stated that he was guided by judicial precedence in making his ruling.
