The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched the nomination process for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency, effective today, Friday, August 22, 2025.

This move comes after the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Murtala Muhammed, tragically died in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

As stated in a release issued on Wednesday, August 20, and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, nomination forms will be issued and submitted at the NDC Northern Regional Office, with the deadline for submission set for Sunday, August 24.

Furthermore, the statement outlined guidelines for the primaries, indicating that a certified delegates’ list will be provided to aspirants following the vetting process.

Nomination forms are priced at GH₵5,000, and the filing fees are fixed at GH₵40,000. Female aspirants and persons with disabilities are entitled to a 50 percent concession on the filing fee.

The opposition NPP indicated that they will not contest the Tamale Central by-election, in recognition of the late MP for the area, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
