Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo disputes assertions that the movie industry is collapsing, instead emphasizing inefficiencies in movie marketing and promotion.

“The Ghanaian film industry is not in a state of decline; actors are performing daily, producers are producing daily, and work is progressing daily. The issue at hand is the lack of effective promotion and marketing, which requires attention,” he stressed in an interview on The Real Talk Podcast with Elizabeth Essuman.

Adjorlolo further refuted the notion that Nollywood was responsible for the fame of Ghana’s movie talent. He made the case that the Ghanaian film industry had a rich history of producing successful movies and renowned stars long before Nigerian filmmakers cast Ghanaian actors in Nollywood films.

“While the Ghanaian film industry may be experiencing challenges, it does not mean that Nigerians are responsible for our success. Ghana Films paved the way for Ghanaian actors,” he declared.

“The Ghanaian film industry and the movies we produced established our popularity before Nigerian producers recognized our talent and collaborated with us.”

Adjorlolo underscored Ghana’s long-standing reputation for movie success, pointing out that ‘Ghallywood’ previously had a significant presence in the African entertainment industry.

The veteran actor noted that Ghanaian movie stars such as Majid Michel, Van Vicker, Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, Juliet Ibrahim, Nadia Buari, and Yvonne Nelson gained recognition before their Nollywood breakthroughs.

‘Ghanaian actors earned their fame in their home country first,’ he reminded listeners, emphasizing Ghana’s ability to nurture bankable talent.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s remarkable business acumen, Adjorlolo insisted that Ghana deserves full credit for establishing the artistic foundations that propelled its stars.
