The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a directive suspending the operations of three radio stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited, a company owned by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, who holds the position of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for failure to adhere to broadcasting regulations.

The affected stations — 95.9 FM in Accra, 101.3 FM in Kumasi, and 101.3 FM in Takoradi — were cited for failing to address regulatory breaches, including the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter locations.

Following the expiration of a 30-day amnesty period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, the National Communications Authority has suspended the operating license of Wontumi Multimedia.

The NCA stated that Wontumi Multimedia failed to fully rectify the violations within the specified timeframe, resulting in the suspension.

In conformity with Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991), the enforcement action was carried out, stipulating the necessity of a valid Certificate of Compliance.

Moreover, six other radio stations across the country faced closure subsequent to neglecting or refusing to adopt corrective measures within the specified grace period.

The NCA underscored its continued vigilance in monitoring the broadcasting sector, guaranteeing conformity with licensing conditions and pertinent laws governing FM radio in Ghana.
