Thomas Partey granted conditional bail over rape charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The Ghana international appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, in connection with alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal.
The charges have been filed just days after Partey officially left the Premier League club following the expiration of his contract.
An investigation was initiated by the Metropolitan Police in February 2022 after an initial report of rape was filed. Partey, represented by lawyer Jenny Wiltshire, has denied all allegations.
Wiltshire previously stated that the midfielder “denies all the charges against him” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
The case has been referred to the Central Criminal Court, where Partey is expected to make his next appearance on September 2.
Reports from Spain suggest the 31-year-old is nearing completion of a transfer to Villarreal following his departure from Arsenal.
