Police Arrest Four Over Stabbing Incident at China Mall

Four people have been apprehended in connection with the stabbing to death of Akwasi Opoku, a staff member of China Mall at Santasi in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

The suspects, who have been identified by the police, are Kelvin Kwarteng, 18, Desmond Opoku, 19, Princilla Yeboah, 22, and Emmanuel Amankwah, 31.

According to reports, a confrontation took place between Akwasi Opoku and another person at the China Mall premises, during which Opoku sustained a fatal stab wound beneath his chest from a sharp knife.

The Suntreso District Police statement confirms the incident and reveals that Emmanuel Amankwah, one of the four arrested suspects, has been implicated in Opoku’s fatal stabbing.

As per the police report, Douglas Opoku of Patasi, the deceased’s father, notified the authorities of the incident, prompting an immediate response to investigate the crime scene.

“On 25/07/2025, at approximately 2300 hours, Douglas Opoku of Patasi, Kumasi, lodged a complaint stating that his son, Akwasi Opoku, aged 22, was stabbed with a knife by three young men he could identify at China City Mall, Santasi. He further reported that he took his son to KATH for treatment, but regrettably, the victim died upon arrival.”

According to the police, a detailed examination of the deceased’s body exposed a deep cut wound beneath the left side of his chest, and the body has been deposited at the KATH morgue for preservation, pending an autopsy.

The police announced the arrest of four suspects: Kelvin Kwarteng, 18, Desmond Opoku, 19, Princilla Yeboah, 22, and Emmanuel Amankwah, 31, identifying Emmanuel Amankwah as the individual responsible for stabbing the deceased.

The police indicated that they have not yet located the exact knife used in the stabbing and are continuing their investigation.
