Ghana has reported its first death from Mpox since the disease was initially detected in the country in June 2022, according to a statement from the Ghana Health Service.

In the past week alone, 23 new cases have been confirmed, raising the total number of recorded infections to 257.

Mpox, formerly known as Monkeypox, is a viral illness that presents with symptoms such as fever, body aches, and a distinctive skin rash. It spreads through direct contact with an infected person’s skin, rashes or bodily fluids.

The Ghana Health Service is calling on the public to remain alert and promptly report any symptoms to help prevent further transmission. The Service also reaffirms its commitment to providing the necessary healthcare support to control the outbreak.
