Kampala, Uganda – Dickson Ndiema, the Kenyan boyfriend accused of burning Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei to death, has died.
According to reports, Ndiema passed away yesterday, amidst ongoing investigations into Cheptegei’s tragic death.
Cheptegei, a renowned Ugandan marathoner, succumbed to injuries on Thursday after being set on fire by Ndiema during a disagreement on Sunday.
The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, highlighting the alarming issue of gender-based violence.
Police had been holding Ndiema in connection with Cheptegei’s murder.
“The case takes a new twist with Ndiema’s death,” said a police spokesperson. “We will continue investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.”
Tributes continue to pour in for Cheptegei, with the athletic community and fans mourning her loss.
