AFCON 2025: CAF Suspends Samuel Eto’o for Four Games and Fines Him $20,000 for Misconduct Against Morocco

Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), has received a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine from the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) disciplinary committee due to alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s loss to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision, which was confirmed by FECAFOOT on Wednesday, has been met with criticism from the federation, which argues that the ruling lacks explicit justification.
FECAFOOT has also expressed concerns about the expedited procedure that led to this decision, which raises questions about the fundamental requirements of a fair trial.
The incidents in question occurred during the quarterfinal match between Cameroon and Morocco, where Eto’o was seen gesturing angrily toward Fouzi Lekjaa, his Moroccan counterpart.
FECAFOOT has reaffirmed its support for its president and commitment to upholding the principles of credible disciplinary justice.
