On Saturday, January 17, 2026, a tipper truck loaded with sand was involved in a fatal accident in Kumawu, Ashanti Region, when it crashed into a hair salon, claiming the lives of four individuals, including two children.

The incident has sparked renewed safety concerns within the community. The truck, which was transporting sand from an ongoing road construction project, allegedly lost control and veered off the road, crashing into a container structure used as a salon.

The victims comprised the salon owner, her two children, and a customer, all of whom died instantly. Four others, including the truck driver, sustained injuries of varying severity.

According to health officials, one of the critically injured victims has been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for specialized care, while the remaining injured individuals are receiving treatment at the Kumawu Government Hospital.

On Monday, January 19, 2026, Kojo Sarfo Amoakohene, a resident, stated that this is the second accident involving a truck operated by the same construction company working on the Kumawu road project.

Previously, one of the company’s trucks collided with a mosque, but fortunately, no casualties were recorded.

He stated that the accident has created fear and panic among residents, particularly those residing or conducting business near the roadside. Residents are dissatisfied with the Saturday disaster.

We are urging the construction company to take action regarding the behavior of their drivers. We have a good relationship with them, but the current situation is causing concern.
