The Ghana Police Service has apprehended three individuals for their alleged involvement in a criminal syndicate that utilizes taxi cabs to pilfer mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting victims.

According to a statement released by the police on Tuesday, January 13, the suspects, Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor, were taken into custody on January 12, 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects primarily operate during the early morning hours, posing as taxi drivers in search of passengers.

Two of the suspects occupy the front seats of the vehicle, while the third positions himself in the back seat. Police investigations have further revealed that when a victim, often a female, boards the taxi, the suspects deliberately lock the doors to prevent the victim from exiting.

As the victim attempts to open the door, the suspect seated in the back pretends to assist but allegedly steals the victim’s mobile phone or wallet in the process.

The suspects are currently in police custody, cooperating with investigations, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend individuals who receive and trade in the stolen items.
