Government forms committee for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup preparations

The government of Ghana has inaugurated a ministerial committee to coordinate Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday November 26, 2025, at the Presidency by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who said starting the planning from the Presidency shows the importance the nation places on the tournament.

Mr. Debrah said the committee’s work must go beyond football. He asked members to support the technical team, mobilise funds, manage travel arrangements, and ensure Ghana presents a positive image throughout the tournament.
He also directed the committee to begin talks with the United States Embassy to make visa processes easier for Ghanaian fans who plan to travel for the World Cup. According to him, embassy officials have already shown interest in helping more Ghanaians attend the competition.

“They said they are ready to make sure as many Ghanaians as possible are able to attend,” he said.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddi Adams, thanked the Presidency for its support during the qualifying campaign. He also commended private sector representatives and other partners who contributed to the preparations.
