A dawn fire tore through the Dansoman Market on Tuesday, killing a young girl and destroying dozens of stalls before firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.

The mother of the child, Priscilla, was later visited and consoled by the MP for Ablekuma West, Hon. Rev. Kweku Addo, who offered his condolences and promised support as the family navigates the loss.

The fire, which broke out before traders arrived for the day, left many of them standing helplessly as their goods and structures burned.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived quickly and stopped the flames from spreading to nearby homes and shops, but the market was already heavily damaged.

When the MP reached the scene, firefighters were still working and smoke was drifting through the remains of the stalls.

He spoke with traders who were trying to salvage what they could and assured them that he was working with MUSEC and other agencies to coordinate relief.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. George Kpakpo Allotey, also visited the site to assess the destruction. He commended the fire officers for their rapid response and said the Assembly will help affected traders while investigations continue into what caused the fire.
