E/R: Police grab suspects caught stealing from overturned container truck

Eastern Region police have apprehended three individuals for stealing cartons of sardines from a container truck that overturned on the Accra–Kumasi Highway at Kwahu Fodoa.

The truck, transporting sardines from Accra to Kumasi, overturned late Monday after hitting a deep pothole on the stretch. The container blocked part of the road following the impact.

The driver and his mate, the only occupants, received treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw.

Witnesses reported that residents and passing drivers assisted in clearing the road and securing the scene.

During the rescue effort, three individuals were observed removing boxes of sardines from the exposed container. Police officers who arrived at the scene apprehended them, and they are currently cooperating with the investigation.

An eyewitness, Ayisetu Wahab, reported to 7dstvgh that the truck did not appear to be speeding but lost control immediately after hitting the pothole. She noted that the sight of people stealing while others attempted to assist prompted bystanders to alert the authorities.

Officers are working to remove the damaged truck from the road and restore normal traffic flow.
