Legendary Ghanaian actor William “Akpatse” Addo passes away

William Addo, a distinguished Ghanaian actor popularly known as Akpatse, passed away on 22nd November 2025, bringing an end to his courageous battle with serious health challenges.
With a career spanning multiple decades, Mr. Addo garnered national recognition for his exceptional work as an actor, lecturer, director, and cultural advocate.
His impressive body of work, including standout performances on GTV’s Thursday Theatre and various other productions, left an indelible mark on Ghana’s entertainment landscape, showcasing his remarkable talent and comedic prowess.
A committed professional, Mr. Addo pursued academic excellence, studying Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Ghana and later earning a master’s degree in Acting and Directing from the University of Leeds, UK.
Beyond his iconic roles, he held key leadership positions, including Director at the National Theatre and Director of Programmes at the National Commission on Culture, while also lecturing in the Theatre Arts Department, mentoring many of Ghana’s celebrated actors and creatives.
In his later years, Mr. Addo faced significant health challenges, including visual impairment caused by glaucoma and cataracts, yet he remained a respected figure for his resilience and the enduring legacy he leaves within Ghana’s creative arts community.
