OSP disputes allegations of removing INTERPOL Red Notice for Ken Ofori-Atta

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a clarification regarding the status of Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta’s INTERPOL Red Notice, emphasizing that the removal request remains pending.
The OSP warns the public to disregard false reports. In a public notice released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the OSP stated that the proceedings concerning Ofori-Atta’s request to remove his name from INTERPOL’s Red Notice are ongoing.
The Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files is currently reviewing the case.
The OSP urged the public to disregard reports claiming otherwise, describing them as misinformation.
“During the pendency of the proceedings, the Applicant’s name, image and details are often redacted from public view until a final determination is made. The public is urged to disregard all publications to the contrary as borne of mischief and misinformation,” the notice added.
The Red Notice was issued following Ofori-Atta’s failure to appear before the OSP on multiple occasions regarding corruption allegations surrounding the National Cathedral project and contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited.
After formal charges were filed by the OSP on November 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta and seven others face 78 counts of corruption and related offenses, including conspiracy to influence procurement processes.
The case is currently before the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra under case number CR/0106/2026.
The OSP emphasized that an INTERPOL Red Notice is a request for assistance in locating and provisionally arresting individuals, not an international arrest warrant.
The OSP has indicated its intention to pursue extradition to ensure Ofori-Atta faces the charges in Ghana.
