Marriage is between man and woman – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reconfirmed Ghana’s adherence to traditional family values, highlighting that marriage is between a man and a woman and that an individual’s gender is determined at birth.

Speaking to leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana during their courtesy visit to the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, President Mahama underscored that the family remains the bedrock of the nation.

“If you want the position of my government, marriage is between a man and a woman. A person’s gender is determined at birth. And then also that the family is a foundation of our nation. That is our position. So there are no questions or equivocations about what we believe,” he said, noting that his views align closely with those of the Christian Council.

The President also expressed backing for the Speaker of Parliament’s suggestion to re-list the anti-LGBTQ+ bill before the House for discussion.

He indicated that this would allow Parliament to examine any required amendments or clarifications prior to its enactment into law.

If the Parliament of the people of Ghana endorses the bill, votes on it, and it is submitted to him as President, he will sign it, Mahama stated.

“I believe that we are completely aligned with the Christian Council in terms of your belief,” he added.
