Ghana lost a continental music opportunity to Nigeria by ignoring me- Patapaa

Ghanaian hiplife musician and songwriter Justice Amoa, popularly known as Patapaa, has voiced his disappointment over what he describes as the lack of support from Ghanaians during the peak of his global hit, One Corner.

Speaking on a UTV cooking show on November 16, 2025, Patapaa argued that the Ghanaian music industry missed a major opportunity to dominate the African music scene because many failed to recognize the international potential of his viral sound.

“If Ghanaians had understood me, no one would be close to us in terms of music. We allowed Nigerians to take over the One Corner rhythm for their songs,” he lamented.

According to him, several Nigerian artistes continue to ride on the rhythmic patterns and highlife elements that made One Corner a continental sensation.

“Nigerians are the ones doing the original highlife music now. When you listen to their sounds, they use highlife keys, and the One Corner rhythm is part of it,” he added.

Patapaa also criticized the current trend where songs blow up on TikTok briefly and disappear within days, blaming it on what he calls the industry’s refusal to value originality.

“People put their songs on TikTok and the song fades away after a week. It’s because they didn’t respect my song One Corner,” he said.

On his personal life, he declared he will never marry again, hinting at past disappointments.

Patapaa further revealed that at the height of his fame, he intentionally carried the Ghana flag during international performances to promote the country globally. However, even that was met with strange rumors.

“One Corner became a hit and people were wondering where I was from. So I started putting a Ghana flag around my neck with a white handkerchief on my wrist. But I heard people saying I put charm in the handkerchief—how can I travel with charms?” he questioned.
