Mahama commissions Tema Port Expansion Phases 1 and 2
President John Dramani Mahama has launched Phases 1 and 2 of the Tema Port Expansion Project, touting it as a crucial step in Ghana’s transformation into a competitive trade and logistics hub for West Africa.
The $1.5 billion Tema Port Expansion Project, implemented through a public-private partnership between Meridian Port Services (MPS), the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), APM Terminals, and Africa Global Logistics (AGL), has been classified by the government as one of the largest and most ambitious port infrastructure developments in sub-Saharan Africa.
In his address during the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, November 13, President Mahama pointed out that the project will foster economic development and attract investment across multiple sectors of the economy, positioning Ghana as a preferred gateway for international trade and maritime operations in the region.
“This project is the realisation of a dream we have nurtured for years to establish Ghana as the gateway to West Africa. Today that dream becomes a tangible reality, symbolising a national aspiration and international confidence. The expansion of the Thema Port strengthens Ghana’s reputation as a reliable and efficient hub for international trade and investments.
