Ghanaian Gospel singer Obaapa Christy has shared that the music industry was more profitable during the DVD and VCD era than in today’s digital streaming age.

Speaking on UTV’s cooking show on November 2, 2025, she said that while technology has improved access to music, it has also increased costs and reduced income for artistes.

“The job is difficult these days because it involves more money compared to before. If we were still using CDs, people would buy in bulk when I release a song,” she explained.

Obaapa Christy added that artistes now rely heavily on live performances to recover investments since streaming revenue is low, urging industry stakeholders to establish better financial structures to protect musicians.

“The online era is good, but the DVD era was better. The music industry needs to be saved,” she emphasized.
