Bibiani GoldStars sacks Frimpong Manso as head coach after defeat to JS Kabyle

Bibiani GoldStars FC have announced the mutual termination of their agreement with head coach Frimpong Manso.

The decision follows the Miners’ 2-0 home defeat to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, a result that has significantly reduced their chances of progressing to the next stage.

Manso, a former Ghana international, took charge of GoldStars in December 2023 and guided the club to its first-ever Ghana Premier League title.

Under his guidance, the Miners also claimed the prestigious GHALCA Top 4 Cup earlier this year, adding another accolade to the club’s cabinet.

GoldStars initiated their 2025/26 league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Bechem United, but their maiden venture into continental competition proved arduous, with Sunday’s loss at the Accra Sports Stadium imperiling their ambitions for Africa’s top club competition ahead of the second leg in Algeria.

The departure of Manso comes at a pivotal moment, as the club prepares to defend its domestic crown while juggling exacting continental commitments.

An interim coach is anticipated to be appointed in the forthcoming days to steer the team through the second leg this weekend and the resumption of Premier League action.
