Assuming no last-minute changes occur, the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) is set to initiate an indefinite strike today, September 19, 2025.

This action is expected to affect members across Technical and Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

According to the union, the strike has become necessary as a result of the government’s failure to address the long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff, despite the union’s efforts to exhaust all laid-down procedures.

In a statement signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah, TEWU-TUC stated that it has shown patience and restraint but warned that any attempt to intimidate its members would amount to an unfair labour practice.

The union recalled that on September 8, it served official notice of the strike, citing persistent delays in finalising and signing Conditions of Service agreements, and noted that repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities had been fruitless, leading to member frustration.
