The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has provided assurance to drivers and traders at Railways enclave near the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) that no developer would take over their lorry station.

Speaking during a visit to the area on Wednesday following the protest, Mayor Allotey categorically denied selling any portion of the land to private developers, stressing that the President was committed to protecting the interests of transport operators and traders.

“As the Mayor of Accra, I have not sold any land to anybody. If anyone claims the land has been sold to him or her, they should bring the documentation,” he said, assuring the traders that “No one will take over your lorry station, not today or tomorrow.”

The Mayor revealed that President John Dramani Mahama had directed him to convey the government’s assurance that the land was for the government and urged the said private developer to reclaim his money from whoever purportedly sold the land, emphasizing that “no construction will be allowed here.”

Mayor Allotey called upon drivers and traders to collaborate with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) or the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) when faced with issues.

“As the government’s Accra representative, I urge you to present your concerns to me prior to taking action,” he underscored.

A drivers’ representative apologized for failing to consult the Mayor or AMA beforehand and recognized the Mayor’s lack of involvement in land sales.

He explained that their objective was to secure government intervention, rather than discredit the AMA.
