President John Mahama has vowed that the National Cathedral project will undergo a full forensic audit by the Auditor General, stressing that government will not allow the matter to be buried. Addressing journalists at his maiden media encounter on Wednesday, September 10, he declared:

“Yes, our insistence on doing things the right way may afford those who have looted this country some temporary relief, but let me be clear, it will not grant them permanent escape.”

The President noted that several corruption-related prosecutions are already underway under the Operation Recover All the Loot (ORAL) initiative, with over 200 cases under investigation and trials set to begin in high-profile matters including the Skytrain case, NSS scandal, and Akonta Mining.

He made it clear that the National Cathedral audit is part of a broader anti-corruption drive aimed at recovering state resources.

Mahama further assured the public that no case of corruption will be ignored, insisting, “Every single case of corruption that needs to be investigated is being looked into, and once evidence is found to ground the prosecution, that will happen and happen swiftly.”
