Kuami Eugene spoke out of ignorance – Arnold Baidoo on music catalogue sales

Entertainment critic Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has taken a swipe at Kuami Eugene over his recent remarks about never selling his music catalogue, describing the artiste’s comments as “ignorant.”
Kuami Eugene, in a recent interview on Asaasepa, insisted that his songs remain commercially valuable and claimed that “no kind of hunger” would ever push him to sell them. But Arnold strongly disagreed, arguing that selling a catalogue is not about desperation or financial struggles.
“Kuami Eugene spoke out of ignorance. His initial comment about ‘what kind of hunger would make him sell his catalog’ is misguided; you don’t need to be hungry to make that decision,” Arnold said in an interview on Onua FM.
He explained that artistes globally sell their catalogues for strategic business reasons, not out of poverty. Arnold further stressed that Kuami Eugene does not even fully own most of his music.
“It’s important to note that Kuami Eugene does not own most of his songs and, therefore, does not have the right to sell them. While he does have songwriting rights, the majority of his songs are under Lynx, which has now been sold to Richard Nii Amarh Quaye,” he added.
