Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has renewed the Curfew hours in Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region.

As advised by the National Security Council and by virtue of an Executive Instrument, the Interior Ministry issued a statement on Monday, September 8, 2025, announcing the imposition of a curfew.

Effective Monday, September 8, 2025, the curfew will be enforced from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.

According to the statement, the government appeals to Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of challenges and to employ non-violent means to promote peace in the area.

In tandem with this, a blanket ban has been enforced on all persons residing in the Binduri Township and its environs, precluding the carriage of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, the operation of motorbikes, and the wearing of smocks, with any individuals found to be in possession of arms or ammunition liable to arrest and prosecution.

Recall that in April this year, a lethal gun attack in Binduri resulted in the demise of a man. The incident transpired near Atuba, a suburb of Binduri Central.

As revealed by security sources, the assailants set the victim’s body and motorcycle on fire subsequent to the killing.

The motive behind the attack remained unconfirmed, but preliminary assessments proposed a possible tie to the Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

Less than 24 hours after the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, visited the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the violent incident occurred in Binduri.

During his visit, the Inspector-General of Police made an appeal to the Bawku Naba for increased cooperation with security agencies to restore peace and stability in the area. He assured that the police would act professionally and maintain neutrality in their peacekeeping efforts.

This commitment was in response to a petition by the Kusaug Youth, who raised serious concerns about the conduct of some police officers in the region.

Meanwhile, the Bawku chapter of the Mamprugu Youth Association condemned the attack and urged the government to implement urgent measures, including increasing security presence in Binduri and enforcing motorbike usage restrictions in the area.

The Association also called upon the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Mahmoud Issifu, to take swift action to address the escalating insecurity in the constituency.
