Newly posted teachers to demonstrate over unpaid salaries

A group of newly posted teachers in Ghana has announced plans to stage a massive demonstration on September 23 to protest months of unpaid salaries.
The group, made up of graduates from Colleges of Education and universities, says many members have gone eight to twelve months without pay, leaving them unable to afford rent, utilities, food, or medical care.
At a press briefing in Accra, Lead Convener Simon Kofi Nartey appealed directly to President Mahama to intervene and compel the Ministry of Finance to release funds.
The teachers warn that if their staff ID numbers are not issued and salaries paid by the end of September, they will escalate their protest on the principal streets of Accra.
