Helicopter Crash Victims' Children Support Fund Accumulates GHS2.3m

The Children’s Support Fund, launched by President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the welfare of the children of victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash, has collected a total of GHS 2,315,000.00.
This was disclosed in a statement by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, who confirmed that the initiative is receiving strong support from corporate Ghana.
President Mahama announced the creation of the Fund on Friday, August 15, 2025, during the funeral service for the eight individuals who died in the helicopter crash.
The President emphasized that the Fund would provide long-term support to the children left behind, ensuring their education, welfare, and overall well-being.
The government has expressed its appreciation to Stanbic Bank Ghana, which provided an initial seed donation of GHS 500,000.00, as well as the following companies for their donations to the Fund:

Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825. In keeping with the spirit of accountability, a list of donors will be published on a weekly basis.
The incident sparked widespread sorrow, prompting an outpouring of tributes from government officials, security services, and the general public.
A state funeral was held on Friday, August 15, 2025, where the victims were laid to rest. The solemn ceremony was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, senior government officials, members of the security services, traditional leaders, and grieving families.
During this funeral, the President announced the establishment of the Children’s Support Fund, aimed at securing the future and welfare of the children left behind.
The Fund serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the victims through care and protection for their children.
The Fund is anticipated to continue receiving contributions from individuals, institutions, and organizations dedicated to supporting the welfare of the bereaved families.
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, a military helicopter carrying senior government officials, including Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment Minister, Murtala Muhammed, along with six others, including three crew members, crashed in the Adansi Akrofoum District of the Ashanti Region, resulting in the loss of all eight lives on board.
