GoldBod commences nationwide enforcement of mandatory receipt system for licensed gold buyers

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has embarked on a nationwide enforcement of its directive, mandating all licensed gold buyers to issue official GoldBod receipts for every transaction.
The enforcement follows a period of postponements and a grace period that allowed traders to regularise their operations and obtain the necessary licences.
GoldBod stated on Monday, August 18, 2025, that the issuance of receipts is mandatory for licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers, with the objective of enhancing transparency and regulatory oversight in Ghana’s gold trade.
To ensure adherence to this requirement, the Board has deployed a task force and field inspectors nationwide.
Licensed buyers are required to present their receipt booklets for verification purposes and cooperate with inspection teams.
GoldBod warned small-scale miners and traders to demand official receipts for transactions, as failure to issue receipts constitutes a serious offence that may result in sanctions, including suspension or revocation of licences.
The Board suggested that licensed buyers requiring assistance to secure receipt booklets contact its Licensing and Regulatory Unit via the dedicated hotlines.
