NACOC destroys seized drugs in Savannah Region with six convictions.

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has destroyed a quantity of illicit drugs and other illegal substances in the Savannah Region, following successful joint operations with the Ghana Police Service.
The substances were confiscated from individuals during targeted enforcement actions aimed at tackling the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking.
The Damongo Circuit Court convicted six individuals as a result of the operations, with each receiving a fine of no less than 500 penalty units.
Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe affirmed that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has reinforced security efforts in the region, reiterating that the use of illicit drugs is strictly prohibited.
“This represents a component of the ongoing exercise that we have undertaken with great gravity. We welcome the court’s imposition of sanctions and the destruction of these illicit substances,” he noted.
Savannah Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission, Rashida Ewuntomah, stated that the Commission’s capacity to combat drug trafficking will be enhanced by the establishment of district and municipal offices in the region.
“We are hopeful that our initiatives will be more effective and robust as we pursue these activities. We anticipate that with the presence of officers in these districts, they will supply us with firsthand information. In the interim, we are doing our utmost. We are working tirelessly to bring them to justice,” she stated.
