Two officers promoted by IGP for heroic rescue and arrest of robbery suspects.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two Ghana Police Service officers for their outstanding bravery in rescuing two robbery victims and apprehending seven suspects during an operation in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.

Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka, stationed at the Anyaa District Police Command, has been recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy to be commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps upon successful completion.

Constable Joseph Akondoh, also from the same command, has been elevated to the rank of Lance Corporal.

A statement from the Police Service, copied to the Ghana News Agency, disclosed that the promotions are in recognition of a meritorious operation conducted on August 7, 2025, at Ablekuma Borkorborkor, where the two officers, assisted by four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), intercepted a green pickup truck during a snap check at about 12:30 a.m.

Two passengers in the vehicle leapt from its open bucket and called for help, informing the officers that they had been attacked the previous night during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.

The officers swiftly rescued the victims and arrested one suspect at the scene. Follow-up intelligence-led operations in the Eastern Region resulted in the arrest of six additional suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker along with other exhibits.

The IGP and the Police Management Board formally honored the two officers and the CPAs at the Police Headquarters on August 8, 2025, in recognition of their diligence, vigilance, and commitment to duty.

Mr. Yohuno commended their professionalism and encouraged all personnel to follow their example, reiterating the Police Administration’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding service.
