Oti: Two arrested for unlawful weapon, ammunition possession

Two individuals have been taken into custody in the Oti Region for allegedly transporting a firearm and a large cache of ammunition without lawful authority.
According to police sources, the arrests followed intelligence received on February 7, 2026, indicating that a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS 4677–17 was conveying boxes of ammunition from Accra to Kpandai in the Northern Region.

Based on the tip-off, a team of intelligence officers mounted a covert operation along the suspected route. On February 8, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the officers intercepted the vehicle and carried out a comprehensive search.
The operation resulted in the recovery of a locally manufactured single-barrel shotgun and 21 boxes containing a total of 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition.
Police say the firearm and ammunition had been concealed among building materials being transported in the truck.

The driver, Abubakari Salam Atta, and his mate, Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, have been arrested in connection with the discovery.
The suspects reportedly admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition.
They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the recovered exhibits have been secured by the police.
