Chairman Wontumi declares bid for NPP National Chairmanship

Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has formally announced his candidacy for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where he currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman.
In a statement issued on February 4, 2026, Chairman Wontumi disclosed that his decision was made after extensive consultations with senior party officials and the youth. He underscored that his primary objective is to fortify, rebuild, and unify the NPP during a critical period in the party’s history.
Chairman Wontumi acknowledged that the NPP has encountered challenges in recent years, but has also gained valuable insights that must inform its future leadership. He emphasized that the party now requires steady, principled, and unifying leadership to move forward.
Chairman Wontumi stressed that his decision to run is not driven by personal ambition, but rather by a commitment to restore confidence in the party, empower its grassroots members, and position the NPP for victory in the 2028 general elections.
He stressed the need for bold and decisive leadership, saying the task ahead would require vision, courage and sacrifice. He added that true leadership demands the bravery to take difficult decisions in the interest of the party.
Describing himself as a grassroots-oriented leader, Chairman Wontumi pledged to work with all members of the party, from elders to the youth, to strengthen party structures and promote unity.
He expressed confidence in the readiness of the NPP for future political battles, declaring that the party is organised and prepared for the road ahead.
Chairman Wontumi ended his statement by calling on party members to rally together, saying the NPP would rise again through unity. He also offered prayers for the party, Ghana’s democracy and the nation.
Chairman Wontumi currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP and is expected to formally file his nomination when the party officially opens nominations for the National Chairmanship contest.
