President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to conduct an immediate investigation into allegations of irregularities in the award of overseas scholarships.

This directive follows a radio discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM, during which a panellist and former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, alleged that an individual paid money to secure a scholarship to pursue studies abroad.

The Minister in charge of Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, stated that the President views the allegation as serious and of grave public concern, particularly in light of the government’s commitment to transparency, integrity, and equal access to educational opportunities.

The President has instructed the NIB to establish the factual basis of the claims, identify any persons involved, and determine the veracity or otherwise of the allegations.

The directive is contained in a letter signed by the Minister and dated February 3, 2026. The Bureau is expected to submit its findings to the President for consideration and any appropriate action that may arise.
