NPP Is Bigger Than Any Individual – Akufo-Addo Tells Presidential Aspirants

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is bigger than any individual, urging presidential aspirants to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambition.
According to him, the future success of the NPP depends on unity and discipline throughout the internal electoral process.
Akufo-Addo made the remarks at the signing of a Peace Pact involving five NPP presidential aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31. The event was aimed at promoting peace, fairness, and mutual respect among contestants.
He noted that individual ambitions must not override the broader ambition of the party, stressing that internal divisions could undermine the NPP’s chances in future national elections. “The ideology of the NPP remains attractive to Ghanaians. The NPP is bigger than any individual. Unity is not an option; it is a strategic necessity to victory,” he stated.
The former President further urged the aspirants to protect the image and values of the party before, during, and after the primary. He said the strength of the NPP lies in its shared ideology and ability to present a united front to the electorate.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin also cautioned the aspirants to conduct themselves in a manner that safeguards the party’s unity. He called on them to rise above emotions and avoid actions that could weaken the NPP.
“Let us rise above short-term emotions. Let us protect the party that has given us a voice. Our party depends on this, and Ghana is counting on us,” Afenyo-Markin said, stressing the national importance of the party’s internal cohesion.
Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, popularly known as Joewise, urged all aspirants to commit to accepting the outcome of the January 31, 2026, presidential primary. He explained that such a commitment would boost confidence among party members and ensure a free, transparent, and peaceful process, adding that contestants must also pledge to support whoever emerges victorious.
