A devastating road accident occurred at Komenda Asamasa along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway, resulting in the loss of seven lives and injuring 18 others.

The accident occurred around 7:25 pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, involving a Sprinter bus (GS 6705-21) traveling from Komenda towards Takoradi and a Man Diesel truck (GS 8394 Y) heading from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

The Central Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GNFS confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

The Komenda Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly and extricated six victims trapped inside the Sprinter bus, which had veered into a nearby bush.

All six were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. Another female casualty who had been taken to the hospital earlier was also pronounced dead, bringing the total fatalities to seven.

The six deceased extricated by GNFS included three females—one of whom were pregnant—one infant, and three males.

The 18 other people injured in the crash had been rescued before the arrival of the GNFS team and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck lost control while overtaking another vehicle, causing a head-on collision with the Sprinter bus travelling in the opposite direction.

Following the rescue, GNFS personnel cleared debris from the roadway to restore traffic flow and ensure safety at the scene.
