Xabi Alonso leaves Real Madrid by mutual agreement

Real Madrid has announced the sudden departure of Xabi Alonso as manager, effective immediately.
The club’s statement read, “Real Madrid CF announces that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his time as first team coach.”
Alonso took over as manager in June 2025, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who departed for the Brazilian national team.
Despite initial promise, Alonso’s tenure was ultimately marked by significant challenges, including injuries, poor results, and dressing room unrest.
The recent Spanish Super Cup semifinal victory over Atletico Madrid was believed to have earned him more time.
However, following last night’s final loss to FC Barcelona, the club has decided to part ways with Alonso.
The club praised Alonso, saying, “Xabi Alonso will always have the affection and admiration of all Madrid fans because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.” The club also thanked Alonso and his technical team for their work and dedication.
The search for a new manager is expected to begin immediately, with several names being mentioned as potential candidates, including Alvaro Arbeloa and Jurgen Klopp.
