Buipe: Five firefighters injured in accident en route to fire scene

Early Sunday, five personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were involved in a road accident while en route to a reported surface fuel tank fire in Buipe, Savannah Region.

According to DOII Salisu Mohammed Sirilbaini, Savannah Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, the Buipe Fire Command received an emergency call in the morning about the fire, prompting the immediate dispatch of firefighters to the area.

The accident occurred before the crew reached the scene when the fire engine veered off the road and fell on its side. The injured firefighters were rushed to the Buipe Government Hospital for treatment.

DOII Sirilbaini stated that two personnel have since been treated and discharged, while three others remain in critical condition. The Chief Fire Officer has assured the injured personnel of the best medical care.

DOII Sirilbaini also disclosed that the Savannah Regional Commander, DO2 Abubakar Alhassan, dispatched additional firefighters from Damango to assist their colleagues in Buipe.

Initially, arrangements were considered to transfer the injured personnel to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, but medical officers at the Buipe Government Hospital confirmed they have the necessary facilities to manage their care.

He stressed that no fatalities were recorded in the incident, although five firefighters were involved in the accident.
