Borussia Dortmund chooses Ghana for first International Academy in Africa

German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has chosen Ghana as the site for its inaugural official International Academy in Africa, with operations slated to commence in February 2026.

The BVB International Academy Ghana will provide a comprehensive youth football development program for boys and girls aged 6 to 18, combining elite and recreational pathways under Dortmund’s global academy model. This initiative aims to identify and cultivate young talent, while enhancing education and personal development.

According to the club, the academy will operate under Borussia Dortmund’s esteemed football philosophy, emphasizing high-performance training standards, modern coaching methods, and holistic player development both on and off the pitch.

The launch marks a significant milestone for Dortmund’s international expansion and highlights Ghana’s growing reputation as a hub for football talent in Africa. Ghana has produced numerous players who have excelled in top European leagues, making it a strategic location for the club’s first African academy.

Club officials stated that the academy will also prioritize coach education and community engagement, aiming to contribute to the long-term development of football in Ghana.

Borussia Dortmund joins a growing list of European clubs establishing development academies in Africa, reflecting the increasing global competition for young talent and investment in grassroots football development.
