The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has successfully foiled a planned robbery operation along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch, following intelligence that a gang of armed robbers had positioned themselves in a bush to attack unsuspecting commuters.

Acting on this information on December 31, 2025, a police team proceeded to the area where they encountered four armed suspects. Upon sighting the police, the suspects opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting officers to return fire.

During the exchange, two of the suspects, identified as Usmaro Mohammed and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, sustained gunshot injuries, while two others escaped into the bush.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a black bag containing 16 live cartridges.

Police also impounded a Toyota Voxy vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects in their criminal activities.

Law enforcement officials suspect the gang of perpetrating several robbery incidents in Manso and Obuasi, including the Mpohor gold robbery, the Nyinahini highway robbery, and a cocoa shed robbery at Sefwi.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspects operated in conjunction with accomplices based in Mankranso, Tamale, and Brekum, who are currently fugitives. The two injured suspects were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital.

Police report that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and establish the ownership of the impounded vehicle.
