Parliament passes bill to legalise Okada
The Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025 has been enacted by Parliament to legalise the commercial use of motorcycles, tricycles, and quadricycles.
The bill also sets a higher limit for determining alcohol concentration in drivers to reduce incidents of drunk driving and related accidents.
The Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2025 is expected to improve road safety, generate employment opportunities for youth, and establish comprehensive regulations for the road transport industry.
On Wednesday, December 10, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, addressed Parliament, stating that the amendment aims to sanitise road transport services, enhance safety, and impose stricter penalties on offenders.
“The Road Traffic Amendment Bill aims to sanitise road transport services, introduce stricter punishment, enhance safety measures, and ensure the efficient and effective use of our roads,” he stated.
