Final funeral rites for Dr Edward Omane Boamah set for December 13 in Koforidua

The funeral rites for Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Ghana’s former Minister for Defence and ex-Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will be held on Saturday, 13 December 2025.

A public announcement from the Presidency has confirmed that the ceremony will take place at 12:00 noon at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua.

Family, government officials, NDC executives, state dignitaries, and members of the public are expected to gather to pay their last respects to the late statesman.

Dr Omane Boamah tragically lost his life in a military helicopter crash on 6 August 2025. The fatal incident involved a Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) operated by the Ghana Air Force.

All eight persons on board died.

The crash claimed the lives of several senior government officials and military personnel. In addition to Dr Omane Boamah, the victims included:

  • Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
  • Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Samuel Sarpong, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice-Chair
  • Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
  • Sqn. Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force
  • Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force

The late Dr Omane Boamah served in various high-level capacities within government and the NDC, and his passing has been widely regarded as a significant national loss.
