Freemasonry is not occult; Ghanaians have a misconception about it – Former President John Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has opened up about his religious journey and long-standing membership in the Freemasons fraternity.
Speaking on the Dalay Show on December 6, 2025, Kufuor revealed that although he was not originally a Catholic, he eventually converted because his wife and children worshipped at Christ the King Church.
According to him, seeing his entire household involved in church activities convinced him to join them, stressing that “we all serve the same God.”
Kufuor also disclosed that he joined the Freemasons in 1967 as a young lawyer, influenced by family members and close friends already in the fraternity.
He dismissed claims that Freemasonry is an occult group linked to dark rituals or the Illuminati, explaining that the organisation is widely misunderstood.
“People fear what they don’t understand,” he said, adding that their practices are symbolic, not evil.
