CID probes US Tourist’s kidnap and robbery allegation

The Police Criminal Investigation Department has opened a probe into a viral video in which an American woman, Arianna Naomi Mackey, claims she was kidnapped and robbed in Accra by five masked men she said were police officers.
Mackey, who was visiting Ghana with two companions, recorded the video at a hotel in Accra before leaving the country on December 5.
According to the Police, early checks confirmed that Mackey and her friends checked out of the hotel that morning and that she departed through Kotoka International Airport the same day.
Investigators later reached out to her for details that could support the case, including the names or any identifying features of the alleged officers, as well as the number plate of the vehicle she claimed they used.
She reportedly told the Police she could not provide any of that information.
Officers also asked for the contact of a Ghanaian friend she said was present during the incident. Mackey told them the friend did not want to be involved.
Since then, the video has been deleted from her social media page. Attempts by investigators to contact her through calls and messages on WhatsApp have not yielded any cooperation. She later blocked the investigation team.
Police say they are now seeking her cooperation through diplomatic channels. The Service stressed that it treats such allegations with urgency and is committed to establishing the facts.
