Court remands farmer for allegedly raping deaf and dumb woman

A 43-year-old farmer, Abdulai Yussif, has been remanded in prison custody after being accused of raping a deaf and mute woman in a bush at Asante Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagye South Municipality.

The alleged incident occurred on July 14, 2025, while the victim, 40-year-old Yaa Agbavaon, was walking to her grandmother’s farm.

According to police reports, she noticed Yussif behind her and stepped aside to allow him to pass. However, he allegedly grabbed her, dragged her into the bush, and sexually assaulted her.

After the alleged act, investigators say the suspect gave her a GH¢200 note and warned her not to speak about the incident.

The victim later informed her grandmother, who helped her report the incident to the Mankranso police.

Yussif admitted to the crime in his caution statement and was subsequently brought before the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court, where he was remanded until December 11, 2025.
