2026 WORLD CUP: Ghana Drawn into Pot 4

The official draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage has placed Ghana in Pot 4, with the ceremony scheduled to take place on 5 December in Washington DC.

The Black Stars are positioned in the lowest-ranked pot among the qualified African nations, together with Jordan, Cabo Verde, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand, the four UEFA play-off winners, and the two FIFA Play-Off Tournament qualifiers.

This placement reflects Ghana’s standing within the expanded 48-team World Cup format.

Higher-ranked African sides occupy stronger pots:

  • Pot 2: Morocco, Senegal
  • Pot 3: Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa

With Pot 4 status, Ghana are likely to face a global heavyweight from Pot 1 — such as Spain, Argentina or England — and a strong Pot 2 nation like Croatia, Japan or Uruguay. The draw rules ensure that no group will feature more than one African team.

Ghana reached the tournament after topping Group I with 25 points, finishing ahead of Mali, Madagascar, Chad, the Central African Republic and Comoros.

The Black Stars will know their World Cup group when the draw is conducted on December 5.
