The Ghana Gold Board, in partnership with the GoldBod Taskforce and National Security operatives, has apprehended 25 individuals, comprising Ghanaians and foreign nationals, for allegedly engaging in unauthorized gold trading, smelting, and assaying.

Richard Nunekpeku, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, disclosed to the media yesterday in Accra that the arrests were the outcome of two separate intelligence-led operations conducted at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota in Accra.

He stated that the operations resulted in the confiscation of over GH¢64,000 and USD112,500 in cash, as well as several gold bars and other valuable exhibits believed to have been employed in the unauthorized trade.

The Deputy CEO also confirmed that all suspects have been granted police inquiry bail, with some already arraigned before the court, while others remain under investigation.

Mr. Nunekpeku reiterated GoldBod’s pledge to sanitize the country’s gold sector, while cautioning unlicensed individuals and entities to refrain from such illicit activities.

He further emphasized that the Ghana Gold Board, in partnership with national security agencies, will bolster surveillance and enforcement efforts to protect the country’s mineral resources and ensure strict adherence to mining regulations.
