“Hiplife is dead” – Tinny declares as he reflects on Ghana’s music evolution

Ghanaian rapper Nii Addo Quaynor, known in showbiz as Tinny, has declared that the once-thriving Hiplife genre is now dead.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz on October 22, 2025, Tinny reflected on how Ghana’s music industry has evolved, praising the new generation of artistes for their creativity and growth.
However, he lamented that no upcoming artiste identifies as a Hiplife musician anymore, noting, “These days, Hiplife is dead. I don’t see any young artiste saying they do Hiplife music.”
Despite his concerns, he commended the industry’s progress, describing Ghana’s music scene as “on fire.”
